I Can Feel the Love Already

In order to make Baylor Law more familial, the new professors will be hosting meals to promote bonding and amicability amongst the 1L community.

As Prof. Property so eloquently stated:

“I encourage everyone to come to these events. I’ll be holding my lunches sometime on Tuesday afternoons and I promise I won’t try to kick anyone out. Just please don’t spit in my food.”

Only 3 days into the quarter and Haley's plans for revenge have been thwarted. Updates to follow.

Heres a hypo. . .

Lets say I get sorted into a lunch group with Simpson and none of the other students show up. Can I consider that a date? Should I offer to pick up the tab?

How many days should I wait before I call?

her first week and five kickouts already. word on the street is that the law school professors union is going to test her for performance enhancing drugs.

this is almost as epic as back in spring 1965 when trail performed an exorcism on a first quarter who hadent bought the suppliment by the 2nd week of class.

Why are Baylor Law professors so full of themselves?

Is expecting you to do the reading the same as being full of yourself? Or are you talking about something else they do?

Last time I checked students paid for those classes.

You should do your reading. That's a given. But if for some reason you don't, there is no reason to kick someone out of class. Just move on. Do all theses professors say in their syllabi they if you aren't prepared or you are late that you will get kicked out of class? It just seems unnecessarily dramatic.

yes, they generally pre-warn in the syllabus. as much as it sucks, it is NECESSARILY dramatic. being held accountable isn't such a bad idea...otherwise baylor would just be every other law school where you can go to class, sit in the back and never be expected to perform. we pay them it's true...but we pay them to make us good lawyers, and being prepared is part of that. so is drinking heavily...

I guess I assume if you are in law school you should be at the stage of your life where you do your work if possible. I don't get someone not reading the 1st week of their law school experience. That's ridiculous. But what's your goal when you kick out a student? Are you teaching them to do the work? Isn't it embarrassing enough to struggle to answer the questions in front of the entire class? Shouldn't wanting to be a good lawyer be internal? Can someone force that on you? I doubt it. I think some of this is the professors buying into their idea of Baylor law. Baylor is hard and we are old school, throw out some students, that’s hardcore and makes good lawyers. It seems like silly theater. If someone sucks at being a law student and doesn’t want to get better, these cheap parlor tricks aren’t going to do anything. If you want to learn, you are going to try hard even if you aren’t getting tossed if you don’t read.

Back to my original thought about professors being full of them themselves. Yes, they can expect you to do the reading. I think most people would expect students to be prepared. But if you are not, why does a professor have to be such a bully? They kick you out to deny you their incredible ability to teach the material that every other law professor is teaching that day. I think some teachers are better than others but really get over yourself. They might as well say it’s my class and I can do whatever I want. In my opinion if your rendition of the information is inadequate I’m going to toss you. I’m sure this I’m a dick teaching technique works for some students but I am also sure that other techniques work just as well.
